Today, Background Backup, Inc is pleased to announce that we are now operating under the ownership and control of Mr. Samuel Arseneau – a trusted and accomplished technology entrepreneur from Ottawa, Ontario, following the transfer of all outstanding shares from our founder, Mr. Sean Costello.
Building on an expression of interest in summer 2025, formal discussions in the following months opened the doors to this season-of-change shift in ownership, which ultimately led to a series of payments and capital investments beginning, and continuing in earnest through 2026.
Founded in 2010, Background Backup’s singular purpose has always been to protect and defend business owners’ access to one of their most valuable assets: business critical corporate data. There is no change to this focus, nor to the concept of operations, nor to the secure storage locations, nor to the 24/7 availability of all protected data, nor to the points of contact or support coordinates.
For more than 15 years, the team at Background Backup has nurtured and operated a stable, privately owned, locally-hosted enterprise storage environment, enabling drama-free restores should anyone within the protected user community suffer a physical or digital disaster. In recent years, additional cloud storage options were added to the service offering, allowing for varied levels of protection to those wishing such options.
As a function of the capital investments made by Arseneau, our secure, Canadian-housed servers have had their storage volumes refreshed, expanded, and made ready for the future. Mr. Kevin Nguyen, who has been an integral member of the Background Backup family since joining in 2017, continues to coordinate the same outstanding levels of stability and service which our protected users – hundreds of whom have been cared for by us for more than a decade – have come to expect.
